I have been biking for about 4 years but have recently developed an itchy groin! I know it may sound funny but its really becoming a pain! On the bike, even if i wear a tub of Sudocreme it gets sore, and in bed at night its like ive been on the itchy powder! I have tried Vaseline and Sudocreme, but they seem to irritate it when it gets sweaty. Its really frustrating, so if anyone has any ideas...other than scratch it!....please let me know....Or is it a trip to the Quack?? Thanks

Sounds like a possible fungal infection (lot's of people get it on the groin and armpits from gland changes to changes in shower/smell products etc). You'll probably need to see a doctor to get http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/100000667.html

    Hope that helps.

Get some athlete's foot power/creme. apply after each shower (at least once a day, btw), and each night. Change underwear regularly, and bedsheets. Wash towels. And you'll be clear in no time.

    Probably just a fungal infection.

Be careful about cross contamination from feet to crotch (and other areas!) in future.

  • Looks like good advice McBazza, but what if it's not quite a foot? I mean like a couple of inches short or something?

Get some Canestan - now available without prescription.

Doing loads of cycling, running and weights means I've had it a few times despite being Mr Clean - Canestan knocks it on the head in about two days use and works for athletes foot too (more or less the same thing).

Oh and if you're hitched/with bird then best to steer clear of any "action" for a couple of days - or they could end up with either thrush or cystitis - not fun at all.
  • Maybe wash the shorts/tights when you apply said products to the short and curlies. Thats been my downfall before now.

Did I just type that out loud?????

Won't work. We suspect he has a form of athlete's foot. But, obviously, not on the foot!!
So, needs to contain a fungicide.

In my case it was clothing.

If I wear "technical clothing" my axillae go in a couple of days, but wear a silk or cotton base layer and I am fine.

The other thing I found helped was using "baby shampoo" as some perfumes and agents in "Mens" shower gels etc can exacerbate the rash.

Slap some Deep Heat on your bits and the pain will take your mind off the itch
Fig rolls: proof that god loves cyclists and that she wants us to do another lap
  • Shower in luke warm water and it will be aggravated less. Also dont type with a laptop on your lap (that irritates any dryness/eczema down there)
