Hi all,
I'm 41 and been on the one road bike now for the last 7 years, This is it a '98 model Merida.
I fully restored it before spring this year with every new Duraace product I could find on the net and ebay, 9 speed shifters, headset, bottom bracket, Cranks/chain rings, 2008 Ultegra SL pedals and 2007 Easton wheels ect ect.
Mechanically it is slick as they come even if it is around the 9 kilo mark!.
Trouble is I've recently been smitten by an alluring new ride, A 2009 Specialized Roubaix elite, Its the 105 model.
Is this as good as the older 9 speed Duraace?
I know the answer is to go and test but all bikes feel great off the show room floor, whats 105 like a few months after the showroom smell fades away?
Are modern bikes, even in the more affordable ranges so much better than the older models that the difference is like night and day.
Thanks for any advice
Stu

  • you will find plenty of reviews of 105 on the web. Its good but not as smooth as ultegra. As for ultegra ice sl thats easily as goo and lighter than dura ace from a couple of years ago. Great value as it can be had on full carbon bikes with good wheels for about the grand mark. At sub 2K my Cr1's are phenominal machines -worlds better than anything you could have had for 5k five years ago. But then i suppose its down to taste! Happy hunting!
