Fork dilemmas!

Bike is a 2004 GT avalanche, love the bike but it came with Rockshox Pilot airXC forks. Toyed with the idea of going back to rigid, but then realised that a fork with lockout could be the best solution, as it's the wasted energy and constant rise/fall pumping of the front end on climbs that make me really hate these forks, even with 50psi in them(max allowed)
I've seen on Evans site the Rockshox Recon Race Solo Air for £209 and Merlin are doing the S8 Cane Creek headset for £32(old headset is rough)
Is this a good upgrade (good review for the forks on bikeradar), or would something like the Tora 302 100's with an S3 headset (total £110) be a better option. I'm no "racing snake" build wise(and biking is secondary to my kayaking interests) so the odd extra pound or two matter not really.
I suppose what I'm asking is the higher spec really worth it. There's so many fork choices out there it's bewildering!!!
(I don't want to spend £110 and end up with a fork not much better than the "pilot + lockout", so if it would be a marked increase in performance I would go for the dearer option? If that makes sense?!)

The higher spec will be significantly lighter - a pound lighter most likely. Both great performing forks, and the Tora is the tougher, but the Recon much lighter.0

Cheers Supersonic- just ordered the Tora but with the S8 headset from Merlin. I know the Recon will probably be far superior but in reality the Tora should do me fine! If it's more robust than the Recon then it'll help with my 14st frame! It comes down to the fact a pound heavier here or there really makes no difference, and unless I was at peak weight and fitness these arguments go right out the window...0
