Wax that scratch?

Having purchased my first carbon framed bike and nicking the paint work slightly during a ride I looked in to different ways to sort the scratch out.
Clear nail varnish was the final choice and I'm happy with the result, but I had a riding friend say either a smidge of finger heated candle wax or chain oil would have sealed it just as well!?!?! Both of which I was suprised by.
I wondered what you guys thought on the wax and oil options for future reference?

Wouldn't wax or oil wash off?Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos0

I said that too to no reaction, I thought it was an odd comment at the time and wondered if anyone else followed the practice.0
