Such threads are problematic. There's a tendency to debate in an information vacuum and I find that they can be uncomfortable reading in hindsight, particularly given that the discussion is going to be about serious injuries and fatalities.

Its not a rediculous idea - after all, there are a lot of such threads. I just think that they are best left a week or so in order that the facts become clear and people have time to think things through. I think then they would turn into threads about more general topics of safety (which is good) rather than pointed discussions about individual incidents.
