Adjusting front gear cable

The front gear cable on my bike has too much slack in it. Either the cable clamp has slipped or the cable has stretched. The shifting otherwise was spot on. Do I need to set up the front mech from scratch or can I simply take up the slack in the cable without affecting the shifting? It's a Tiagra compact chainset and front mech. Thanks.

Just try turning the barrel adjuster on the down tube anti clockwise until some of the slack has gone.
  • Just take up the slack in the cable, there should be no need to adjust the up and lower screws. And if its still a bit out then just play around with the amount of cable, thats all I have ever done. Hope this helps
