Now, I have just looked out of the window at the weather for the way home, and it appears that there are ominous black cloudds circling, but the wind has completely died down.

Personally, I'll take any level of rain (apart from the annoying misty kind) over wind, but wondered what you good souls thought?

Way into work - wind (Work on a building site - once you're wet, you stay wet)
Way home - it can do whatever it wants!

I like the misty rain sometimes, it is so refreshing. But wind is just nasty to me, likes to try and put me under cars.

  • Any type of rain is fine by me just not wind, I can't stand riding into a head wind!
  • haha i dont care whether it is raining heavy, light or even snowing, as long as it isnt windy, i always have to cycle how into the prevailing wind and im always tired from been up and around all day. I dont mind a strong northerly wind as it means i go into it on my way there when im not tired at all and its easier also it means i have a nice tailwind all the way home :lol:

Don't mind what sort of rain it is as long as it's not raining at night on unlit roads.
Car headlights become blinding and glasses worsen the situation.

Never ridden in snow, is it fun?

It's just a hill. Get over it.
  • I should have really put up another option to say 'stop going on about the misty rain olivia nobody else cares but no wind'...

Yes! it makes it really quiet, as long as the wind is minimal which when the snow is actually falling it often is.

Tricky on a road bike though - something with really fat tyres is better.

The snow is def fun to ride on but ice is even better, I commuted all last winter even when the temp dropped to double minus figures, brrrrr!

Best of all was getting home in the pitch black, eyes blood shot and fingers I could no longer feel, doesn't that sound fun :P

I'd take those conditions any day over wind and why is it always a headwind even if you turn around......

Once you're going over a certain speed snow hurts when you ride into it! (in the air I mean, not on the ground).

Just a tought, the wind referred to in the poll is the meteorological kind, not the gastrointestinal variety?

+1 so long as it's not windy rain

It's always windy round here (Aylesbury), non-stop, it's so depressing (bottom of a valley, I think)

It's just a hill. Get over it.
  • I love riding in the rain but hate riding in that horrid fine misty stuff, it just doesn't work well with my glasses. I can't even take them off to ride as I wouldn't be able to see much further then my handlebars!

At least with "proper" rain it washes off, the mist just sticks but doesn't wash off!

As for wind, it all depends what direction it's blowing!

Finally I have also ridden in snow. Was about 5 years ago and I loved it. I was working at the local PC World and it started mid-afternoon so by the time I left the car park was empty and had a lovely covering of snow :-) I was on my MTB so when I left I spent 5 minutes just ar5ing about in the car park carving mahusive skids!

Took the journey home at about a third normal pace, so my journey went from 15 minutes to 40. A bit better then my mate's usual 10 minute car drive that took an hour

  • i prefer riding in proper rain than to mist for same reason, also riding in snow is really fun, just need to have good glasses as the snow always gets in your eyes, only thing i dont like riding in is wind!

A cool day, don't mind rain of any kind. Too hot or windy is unpleasant.
Today is a good day to ride
