Aha - If I'd read the southampton row / theobalds road thread I'd have realised many of my ideas had already been raised 8)

I agree that cyclists have to be responsible users of the roads. However, it is a very talling statistic that while I've no doubt that drivers of HGVs are very skilled, the number of fatal and serious road traffic collissions involving HGVs is out of all proportion to the number of HGVs as a proportion of traffic. Simply put they are not safe. The solution is not to simply tell other road users to be careful . We (I mean those in power) need to seriously consider whether there should be timing bans or outright bans for lorries on anything other than motorways and the most major of roads.

How About this for an idea.....

Day-glo humps.

The number of commuters going into town wearing Day-glo humps is very high.

Get some printed up with an appropriate slogan and sell them on here (owners accepting that that's OK etc etc etc).

It can't cost more than 15 quid or so......

It won't be long until everyone cycling in sees one.........

Thanks...The new (and hopefully improved) version will be out later...I've also lost the ' from HGVs And tweaked the words to summut like In 6 days in 2008 2 cyclist were killed by HGVs

And also added Don't go up the inside of and HGV, you might not live to regret it

And some other tweaks as well

Looks great Snooks, in the thread regarding the latest incident (now locked) Linsen said that it should go onthe back of all HGVs - definitely a great idea, perhaps we should contact the RHA with the finished version?

It's definitely something to look into once I get it sorted out once and for all....

Once it's out there electronically I can think bout other ways...stickers, leaflets - on top tubes at stations, bike shops etc etc

ANything really to spread the word around....
