Chain stretch on a fixie

I bought my self one of those chain measuring thingies yesterday to see if the chain on my singlespeed mtb needs replacing.
To my surprise, according to it, I've more than 1% stretch on the chain on both my Fixie and on my Rohloff tourer - but it doesn't seem to have made any difference on either of them (at least, none that I can feel when riding).
Is chain stretch on a fixie/singlepeed as crucial as on a geared bike? Do all those chains need replacing, even though they are not giving me any problems?

Fixed or Rohloff, a stretched chain will start to eat your teeth. The sprocket first, and than the chainwheels. Its up to you...
TBH some people have difficulties in getting an accurate reading from chain measurers. It would be worth checking a new chain with your own measurer to see what the baseline reading is. You can double check your existing chains with a steel rule next time you get them off. 24 rivets start life measuring 12". At 12 1/16", replace, at 12 1/8" be prepared to buy sprockets as well.0 -
