    Measure the width between chain stays, subtract 0.5", and that's your maximum.

    Remember that wider tyres are also larger diameter, so you'll need to measure the clearance slightly further towards the BB (further by the increase in tyre width, so for a 2.25" tyre you'd measure 0.25" further towards the BB than for a 2" tyre)

    It's worth bearing in mind that some tyre widths vary between manufacturers, I had Tiogas on my GT when I bought it & the rear 2.1 tyre was rubbing the frame & causing damage, so I changed to 2.1 Panaracer XC Pro's. They are much narrower, giving more clearance
