Should of bought a hybrid?

Just started doing my daily commute (~14 miles each way) a few times a week after getting a MTB (Coyote Nevada) a month ago, i've fitted some more road orientated tyres in the form of Spec Armadillo's but feel i may have bought the wrong bike...maybe i should of got a hybrid (as i dont fancy a full on road bike) to go that bit faster easier and i wont be doing much (canal path max) off road.
I've also heard a rumour my company might be introducing the Cyclescheme next month and hence i'm wondering whether i should make a change while the price is good, i shouldnt lose much if any on the Coyote cus i got it for a decent price.
So with a budget of £600-700 i've been looking at 700c rimmed bikes rather than 26"....wise choice?
Any others i should add or even delete from the possible list i've got below?

Hey, I read somewhere you can put 29" wheels in some mtb frames as long as you use fairly low profile tyres and of course have disc brakes!
Never checked it out but it might be worth you looking into...0 -
Its up to you, but I'd seriously look at a CX type of bike as well.
Fanboy time, but On-One do the bike to work schemes and if need be you can buy thro' Halfords...
The Kaffenback, ( I have one) is perfect for your stated needs. Room for bigger 32mm tyres than a full on road bike, tough enough (easily) for towpaths and the normal pothole infested roads. Gives you the (needed) option of full length mudguards, and comes in either flat bar or drop bar configuration.
Plenty of other bikes to look at as well, Specialized Sirrus is a cracking bike. The Badboy lefty of old was one of the bikes I most fancied but never bought.
sicknewt is right, there should be enough room to fit 700c wheels on a mtb with skinny tyres... buy a cheap rigid fork (P2) and away you go...0
