Knee Problem - Have I done something serious?

While riding to work the other morning I was blinded by some ignoranus driver with his high beam lights on and ended up drifting out into the road and nearly hitting the car. The whole thing is abit of a blur to me but immediately after the car passed me I've been in a world of shite.
I can't turn the pedal more than 3 inches without screaming all manner of words and it's various (excrutiating) pains all the way around with every revolution.
I'm having trouble walking now and even the slightest bend of my knee almost brings me to tears.
There is a fair amount of swelling but it's not very podgy or fluid-e and it's not changing colour.
So I'm wondering, could perhaps the car of hit me? I don't remember feeling an impact and I didn't loose controll of the bike at all, but have been screwed ever since.

And as for the pain which is extremely painfull with the slightest movement, but changes to pain in other parts of my knee as the pedal goes around... What on earth could I have done?
Pulled a muscle, torn a ligament?
Anyone got any idea's?

  • don't know what you've done but best get down to A&E or your GP. i doubt you've hit the car, you would have felt 'something'.

you may have twisted your knee awkwardly to avoid the car. either way, get it looked at.

  • Twisting it does seem the most likely option, but as obviously I was completely blinded I didn't exactly speed up.. Just came to a rolling stop, plus I was going up hill at the time. When the car went past I remember harmlessly doing 1 rotation and rolling back over the kerb, that was with my left leg, when it came to carrying on, right leg first, that was when I felt the pain

Symptoms of ligament damage does include swelling. I assume if you hit the car you'd have some bruising. But probably best to see doc.

Hmmm, an odd one. TBH sounds more muscular/tendonous than ligamentous but also sounds like it needs to be checked out. Off to A&E methinks....
