Bibs

Hi folks. On my regular commute home I usually average in the mid 28s (km/h  ) and have only broken 29km/h on, as far as I can remember 3 or 4 occasions. I've always worn lycra waist shorts.

Then, since buying some bibs on Tuesday I seem to have suddenly become superhuman. The next three days were 29.9, 29.9 and 30.2 (finally broke the 30 barrier - like the sound barrier but more painful). They certainly feel more comfortable, but can they really make such a difference? I seem to be able to breathe more easily, and sit more comfortably further back in the saddle, which might help on the hills. Even if it's just coincidence I'll certainly only be buying bibs in future - riding has become like being massaged with silk! :D

  • Probably psychological. I got my commute down 10 mins to 35 when i got my new bike :D
Been using my old bike recently and because of traffic can't really use that as a measure but got on the new beast again today and it crept back up to 42 mins :(
Might have been the cold and mist but i dunno, have to wait and see i suppose :?

Totally agree, a rider ahead becomes a target to overtake. Sadly, on my commute I rarely come across other bikes, but I relish the challenge when one comes into view.

I hate that when out training! Your going along at your own pace and a rider pops up in the distance, well, you just have to catch him don't you! and then when you've caught him nonchalantly say Hi like your just out for a nice easy ride.

That happened to me ages ago. I went passed him , with a "Hiya..." from me, then after a minute he went by me so fast he nearly had me off, with a not-to-nonchalant "See ya...." as he swept by.....
Couldn't see him for dust and small pebbles after that. Teach me.
