Airnimal Chameleon Singlespeed/Fixed

I've recently purchased a Airnimal Chameleon bike through a friend. Its a singlespeed set up with a White Industries Eno rear hub, airnimal chainset and shimano sora groupset.

I was wondering what the popularity of these bikes are? I've done a bit of research and haven't found any companies selling a singlespeed/fixed. What would be a rough price?

I'm tempted to convert it to a standard geared set up, but am not sure if the investment is worth it? I plan to sell the bike on pretty soon and am interested in how many people would prefer a geared version to a singlespeed/fixed version.

The bike is brand new (except for a quick up the road test) and although I love the look of it...I'm not sure whether its the folding bike for me. (I'm not going to lie...it was a bit of a 'spur of the moment' purchase!)

Any thoughts or opinions would be very appreciated...I'm new to the folding bike world!

Thanks

  • Well it's certainly a rarity, and something I'd be interested in if I had any money.

As a result of it's rarity putting a price on it would be difficult, it's worth what somebody is willing to pay for it. However anything fixed tends to fetch a premium on ebay so in your position I would put it on ebay with a low start price and no reserver and see what it gets. A low start will get the bidding started, higher start prices tend to scare the early bidders away. Likewise a lot of people don't bother bidding if they see "reserve not met".

  • It may be worth while offering both options to people if you decide to sell. Single/fixed is a small but growing market, so you may find plenty of people looking at it. However, you may find that people will be put off by the single thing. If you want to sell, and have a spare back wheel for it, offer it geared or single.

p.s. would it not be a good commuter bike for you?

FWIW I have just returned from hols in Majorca where I used a Chameleon with Shimano 105 10 + triple. I bought the bike specially for overseas trips as Ive had bikes wrecked in bags and find a full size box too big to lug around. I managed to replicate the riding position of my normal bikes.
The bike was ideal and rides as well as most med spec alluminium bikes (passed lots of expensive carbon bikes on hills too and I am no great climbeer). As a folder its not great though, almost as much dismantling as a normal bike. Just ends up in a much smaller box.

Short summary - ideal for cycling holidays by air, but I would definately fit gears. Not much good as a folding commuter.

What frame size is your Airnimal Chameleon - 52 cm or 56 cm?
If 56 cm I might be interested in purchasing it from you.
