If you want something a little cheaper, warm, waterproof and reasonably breathable then either the Endura Phoenix or Polaris Tungsten are worth a look too. I have the Polaris one and it's survived a few crashes. Hopefully it'll survive mid November at Afan too.......

Generally Gore-tex XCR is the most waterproof, but eVent is the most breathable.

Nope, haven't bought it yet. Still raking around for a good deal somewhere! Whilst it's a slightly different type of jacket (not waterproof), I did see a rather sexy Gore Bike Wear jacket at the weekend in a camo style (Gore Cosmo I think it's called). It's been thrown into the mix a bit and, at around the same price, I reckon it might be warmer that the eVent jacket, although it's 'water resistant', as opposed to 'waterproof'.

    Decisons, decisions..... :?

  • Recieved (finally), but worth the wait! Super light and great fit. Feels quality and plenty of pockets all waterproofed YKKs :) will let you know when I get wet on how it handles that...

Or get Nikwax Analagy material which is more waterproof than Gore-Tex and more breathable than eVent...!

Wife and I both have jackets made from it and it's literally astonishing how light, waterproof, "silent" (Special Forces love it) and breathable it it...

  • Thanks for the info Matt :D

The Rev - I've been keeping my eyes open for you but £250 jackets aren't often handed out for free to people they don't know!

    OK...

Awesome is one word, sweet another, practical, I can go on... :D

Only got it yesterday, but it got tested 1st outting on the way home from work! The heavens opened at 5:25 and didn't stop til after I was home, but got home dry as a bone 8) the fit is spot-on, not limiting like previous waterproofs ive used. The water just beaded up and rolled off and I got home without sweating for the 1st time since the summer when I was just in a t-shirt! Even when I stopped at home (and I got there quickly trying to stay out of the weather), I usually overheat straight away once the airflow stops but the jacket continued doing it's thing and I stayed cool. Well worth the outlay, and am now confident I can face any weather thrown at me (with enough layers underneath in the snow/sleet!). Only possible downside is that there's not a lot of reflectives on it for road use.
