I'm hiddiously out of shape, a combination of family, the weather, etc.
But I've agreed to do a 50 mile event on Sunday. I do have a 100 miler under my belt and an average ride for me is about 30, so 50 really shouldn't be a problem.

But there is a problem.

I went out yesterday, great day and accidently did a very very hilly 43 miles, fast.
The result is, I sit here now, knackered, I have to ride for work today and Sat.

What do I do now, to get myself 'back' for Sunday?

  • Rest. You have the base fitness, so training won't help between now and Sunday

Rest, maybe some stretching or a easy walk or pedal.

You are easily fit enough. Sunday will be a dodddle

EDIT. Just saw your name and the gentle walk may not be appropriate. Just rest then

FCN is minimal as I don't see many bikes on the way to work
  • As he said above. And drink plenty of water, eat well. Fresh fruit, vegetables, seeds and nuts. Get some good quality protein in as well. Don't forget to get a good amount of carbs the day before.
Try stretching gently this may well help to loosen up but there's no guarantee.

    You'll be fine

Don't push on too much at the start of Sunday's ride. Give yourself a steady 40mins until your base fitness kicks in, and then chances are you'll feel great.

Just ride really easy to work both days - use low gears so that you are never pushing on the pedals. A nice hot bath and a bit of self massage & stretching will help ease sore leg muscles.
  • dont have 8 pints on saturday night . seriously just take it easy , do nothing till the ride

Yep you're just going to have to take things as easy as possible before the ride.

Mr Postie back, don't worry fella's I have taken control of the situation, she is now back in our Austrian cellar.

For the record I walked the little sods, 8 miles, before I rode a further 43 miles.
