Hi,
I'll be in London in a couple of weeks - apart from Evans and Condor, are there other recommended road-oriented shops which are worth a visit?

Also, I thought I'd read somewhere about a ?weekend? street market which often has a lot of bike gear? Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance

  • The only London market I know is around Brick Lane where stolen bike are routinely sold for next to nothing on Sunday mornings. Not somewhere I tend to shop.

I'm sure i've heard of a market in the vauxhall area where stolen bikes also end up, usually in pieces apparently but i've never been, and there must literaly be hundreds of bike shops in London, what area it's a big place?
  • Sorry, my bad, I'll be right in the city, near Trafalgar Square but I'm happy to hit the trains/ tube to get out of town if that's where I need to go.

While I'd be looking for some retro components, I'm not interested in propping up the stolen-bike market, in advertently or otherwise.

    Thanks
  • There's a road bike shop between Embankment and Charing Cross station under the underpass.... Being a fellow Kiwi I only know this cause I walked past it last month when I was visiting London.

Can't say how good it is though
  • If you are after road orientated bike shops then I personally would not bother with Evans. They are generally have a bit of everything and specialise in nothing. If you fancy some high end stuff then Sigma sport in Kingston would be a good bet (they are on the web). The shop is not huge but is packed with swanky kit. Also consider Prologue (Sheen) and Geoffrey Butler cycles (Croyden). De Ver cycles in Streatham may be good, never been personally but hear it's decent.

You may also be around for Cycle show 2008 at Earls court.

Cyclesurgery in e.g. Holborn (they have several shops in London) might be worth a visit.
The shop in Holborn is just next to the tube station.
