Hi
Just finished a bike ride tonight and 2 miles from home my seat post snapped. I ride a Trek SL1000 and the seat post was a Bontranger carbon one.
I would like to replace with another carbon one but want to keep the cost under £50, any ideas.

I weigh just over 14 Stone, if this helps.

Thanks

Russ

  • Hey there,

I'd try for a warranty claim, if possible.

To the point though; I have a PBK branded post, which cost me £20.

I have no idea how to review a seat post, so I'm sorry I can't tell you anymore about it.

    Here it is here: http://www.probikekit.com/display.php?code=A9183

  • All four of my bikes have PRO VIBE MONO CARBON posts. Expensive but the mutts nuts. Wouldnt have a bike without one now.(even my single speed). Retails at £90 but they can be found for £65 mark on occasion. Very strong(i was 20 stone when my first one was purchased), soaks up all of the vibration and preeeeeeeeeety!

I have to be honest and say that I have one(Easton - I needed one with some good setback). It's easy to setup and works fine(if a seat post can "work fine"). For whatever reason(maybe it's knowing a few people who have broken theirs) I have a bit of
apprehension about it. I also haven't heard of too many metal post failures. You've
convinced me. I'm going to get a Thomsom metal post.

  • i had a cnc machined thomson post which was lovely looking and a good quality piece of kit but it gave a really harsh ride.

I was hoping no one would say that.:cry: Damn, they can send men to the moon
but they can't make the perfect seatpost.

I had a Thomson Elite on my Giant and it was a miles better ride than the carbon one that was on it originally. Loved it.

Have a Use Alien on my Litespeed. Lovely looking setpost but don't buy one - the adjustment is a pain in the neck and micro adjustment is impossible!

Call it what you will but every time I put a tooth under my pillow it was gone in the morning
and money was in it's place. Who else could it have been but the tooth fairy? Who else would give you money for a tooth?

Oh great. That's one vote for Thomson and one vote against. What are you guys trying to do to me??? I'm confused enough in life.

  • I loved my thomson, just enough give tbh.

I have a specialized one with the zertz damper in my pompino and it is really comfy.

Well, I don't know if I'd call it "immense clarity" but she is still quite "sharp"?

I have an FSA carbon post in my road bike and a Thomson in my Mt bike. Having used both in the road bike I can't tell any difference. The bike is Ti which may or may not make a difference.
  • I love my Thomson seatpost, it's no less comfortable than the carbon one it replaced, and it's on an aluminium frame too where I thought I'd have noticed the difference. I've got a Thomson stem as well and they are the two bike parts I'm never getting rid of.

i have a carbon promax on my look461.i bought the bike in april `08 and it is an `06 model. having been in the shop for a couple of years i suppose the seatpost was adjusted frequently and by the looks of it overtightened a few times due to the post being marked.however i bought the bike cheap so i didn`t mind what i considered a minor detail.
i have greased the carbon post and even though i`ve cleaned it and the frame, the post always slips. so now i`ve decided to buy a new post and my favourite at the moment has to be a thomson elite alu black and for some strange reason i want the setback version as it looks wicked. all the reviews i`ve read reckon thomson seatposts are the best.
