    Why aren't you?

I think Armstrong is going to have a tough time (depends on his team) and I also think there is going to be more to the Tour than Armstrong and Contador.

Bernard Kohl and the Schelk brothers could be big contenders!

Depends heavily on the course, I hope A. Schleck will win it, because he's an exciting rider, however, out of Contador or Armstrong, I think Contador will edge it, unless there is a load of TTing.

  • Armstrong, cause of his talent, his ability to read a race tactically and cause he has not eased up in his training much...take a look at his website...he looks like he is ready to race

Contador is improving day by day his TT skills and if it's a mountain one I wouldn't be surprised if Contador edged Armstrong.

I am Spanish and would be supporting Contador btw :) :P

his final TT at the Giro 08 was hardly emphatic...11th? I think it may mean he was not prepared...he wins by small margins, his repsonses to Rasmussen in 07 were hard to believe though...he may be in the 2nd cat

cat 1 will cheat at any cost

cat 2 scared to, wants to, won't

cat 3 is honest and will not

What are you on about? Drug cheating?

Well, he finished 4th in the one at the Olympics, not bad I would say and wouldn't be suprised if he wins the last one in the Vuelta on Saturday.

  • Armstrong all the way for me - he's got the tactical and mental strength to make Contador buckle under pressure... and lets face it, Armstrongs' return is - as far as I'm concerned - good for the sport!

Yep but the Olympic TT wasn't the pan flat type of TT which they usually use in the tour

True, I also think that the Tour organisation won't like Armstrong winning again so they will probably do only one of those instead of 2!

  • contadors last TT in the Giro was very fishy...none of the Ullrich-LA duels 1, 2 in each TT , Rominger-Indurain 1,2 in final, TT duels...AC was tired and had to win physically at the 07 Giro.

Hopefully Andy Schleck will whup both their asses.

But in all honesty, I see Contador as the favourite. Armstrong is three years older.

    Basso anyone?

The thing is that Contador went to the Giro with no preparation whatsoever so I wouldn't expect him to get the best results! I don't know, I say don't write him off for the TTs.

I'll say Contador because I'm not convinced Armstrong will be on the start line. I hope he isn't too - cycling needs to move forward not regress.

Make this a poll with five options: Contador, Armstrong, Schleck, Sastre, Other...

Personally I think Lance. As great as Contador is, no one ever works harder or wants it more than Lance. He'd be willing to die on the finish line if that was what it took to NOT LOSE. I think with him it's less about winning and more about not losing.

Has Armstrong actually said he would race it to win? He has said he wants cancer awareness and will do some high profile races around the globe. Would he believe he can win himself? I certainly don't.
My feeling is that next year Contador will still dominate and competition will come in 2010 from the likes of Andy Schleck or Gesink. And Armstrong will ride as Contador's super-domistique and give daily press conferences or something like that.

I don't think CSC would have won if Astana were at the Tour this year - Sastre has always been a classy rider but Bruyneel wouldn't have let him get away with those tactics.

Won't happen again next year anyway without Riis pulling his strings.
I'm left handed, if that matters.

    bookies have

    Contador 2/1
    Armstrong 9/2
    A.Schleck 12/1
    Evans 14/1

interestingly the odds for Evans and Schleck moved a fair bit ( 10/1 -> 14/1 and 8/1 -> 12/1 respectively), but contadors odds remain mostly unchanged

see http://odds.bestbetting.com/cycling/tour-de-france/winner-2009 for historic odds chart

personally i think you gotta be a little nuts to be backing Armstrong at those odds with no evidence of form/fitness

Well, i'll be sticking a £hundred on LA to win. I don't believe his powers have diminished, at all!! 8)

Even though aurelio, kleber, blaze etc. are on the which hunt for catching LA, I share that his comeback is weird.
But I wish him all the best, he is an athlete that draws the masses, how bad can that be???
Raising cancer awardness is a bad thing here?
  • Armstrong winning all depends on whether he can build a good team around him.

Also, can he win it clean...............

What is 'raising cancer awareness' exactly? Everyone talks about it and blows smoke up Lance Armstrong's arse for it but what does it mean? I know what cancer is. I think everyone I know does too. I genuinely don't get it.

I think the Lance fans may well be underestimating Contador. He's well on his way to securing a place as a great by winning 3 grand tours. His preparation for the giro wasn't the best, but he won it by some margin. Beating someone using CERA but that's another story

Contador. Lance won't win, I'm certain. But I might but a monkey on A. Schleck at 12/1.

12/1 is tempting, for sure. He was clearly the best climber in this year's Tour, except for his jour sans, from which I guess he would have learned a big lesson.

Trouble is, he's the worst TT rider by far out of the big favourites. It really depends how many kilometres are against the clock in next year's route.
  • Contador.
Unless LA can find another doped up team and some undetectable drug 8)
