Sore Knees

As I posted in an earlier thread some friends and I did the C2C last weekend.

Fitness wise I was fine (thanks to a lot of training) however I did suffer badly from sore knees.

I had been used to riding circa 100 miles per week in my training sessions for several months (4 x 25 miles per week) with no problems so can't understand why I suffered as I did.

I was using some cages on my pedals that I had only used for about 2 weeks before the trip with no problems.

My saddle was set so that I had a slight kink in my leg when the pedal was at the bottom of the stroke, but I did raise it slightly at the end of the 2nd day and my leg was still not completely straight. I didn't feel like I was over stretching in the new position.

So can anyone help with suggestions as to what caused my knee pain?
