HOPE Vision 1 LED

I'm looking for a bar mounted front light after my Cateye HL-EL530 decided to jump from my bars at around 25mph the other night and explode upon impact with the road. After going back to salvage the light and 2 of the batteries I tried the light back at home and it's DOA.... As it's a sealed unit I assume that the LED has suffered trauma.

I'm now in the situation where I need to have a light as I commute home at around 10pm most evenings from my house renovation, and start work at 8am. With the mornings getting darker, the evenings drawing in and motorists pulling out.... then looking, I'm after a replacement that's a little more robust than the Cateye that's just died.

I've been aware for the Hope Vision 1 LED for a while and what attracts me is the CNC'd body, decent bar clamp and it's simple design. However, as I've not had the opportunity to try it in person I was looking for opinions before I jump in.

I've also looked at the Cateye Single Shot and Single Shot Plus......

I'm not looking to illuminate dark tracks with a single light, but as the Hope comes with a helmet mount I thought this may work well if I even decide to get a serious offroad light rig.

Any thoughts guys? I can also get it for a lot less than the RRP.......

Not sure its the best commuter light really as it doesn't look like you could see it very well from the side - think you would want a less focussed beam really.

Apparently its a bit heavy to use on your helmet.

For off-road I use two fenix L2Ds from the photonshop - pretty damn good. I also just got one of these which is amazing for £14!

If it's any help, we'll have a massive roundup of commuting lights on the site very soon. As has been mentioned, the beam on the Hope isn't the best for being seen at junctions etc.

Have a look at the reviews of the Hope light on Chain Reaction..................

  • Thanks for that.

I took a look at the reviews and they're pretty bad. That's the main reason I asked as there's not a lot written about them.

I'd like to read a comprehensive review of what's available on the market at the moment... I may have to find a cheap interim solution until they're available...... any idea when?
