For a rider on a standard road bike with standard roadie kit what would be the best order of upgrade from the following to find more TT speed in relation to cost?

Clip on TT bars
TT Specific bike
Aero helmet
Deep section/disc aero wheels
Overshoes
Skin suit

Plus any others you can think of......

Thanks in advance.

  • For a rider on a standard road bike I think a TT specific bike would be a poor upgrade, after where would you put it? You could somehow attach it to the front of your road bike, and although this might give an aero advantage it would double the weight and just plain look silly. No I think if anything, you should buy a TT bike and not try to attach it to your roadbike, just ride it on its own like everybody else does.

What about an analysis of your position. Theres no point in being so aero that you cant put out the power you used to ?

FWIW - I'd whack on the tribars - that seemed to give me a 1 - 2mph increase for the same heart rate. After that - everything else is pretty marginal ?
