VERY IMPORTANT!
As the driver in the Lower Thames Street incident has now been reported as arrested, it is critically important that the speculation as to the circumstances of the incident ceases.0 -

She was walking her bike across a road in front of what was a stationary lorry. It then 'edged' forward and hit her. I think you're under the impression she was riding at 90 degrees to moving traffic.
The picture you've pasted, without that context, could give a misleading impression of what happened.
I don't think "oh my god, what was she thinking?" is a very well judged comment.

Hi Chris,
I don't want to have an argument with such a tragic accident is the focus but I can see from that photo that she's walking the bike. I can also see that she's walking it across a wide road where railings have been erected to prevent pedestrians crossing, and she's walking in front of a lorry whose windscreen doesn't even start until some point above the top of her head.
Furthermore, the car in front of the lorry doesn't appear to have another car immediately in front of it, so it could move off (or edge forward) at any second. It seems (from what is, I agree, one angle in one blurry photo) that she's making an extraordinarily unwise manoeuvre.
It seems this is a tragic pedestrian death rather than a tragic cycling death, for what it's worth (very little except for the statisticians).0 -
