hi, i have just bought a bike with avid juicy 3 hyro disk brakes on it, when i got home with the bike i had a quick ride up the street and noticed when you pulled the brake levers it didnt stop you dead but was a gradual stop, when no one is on the bike and you pull the brake lever you cant move the wheels but when your on it as i say it is a gradual stop not a dead stop.
do these brakes need some adjustment or is this correct ?

Need bedding in.
If you ride up and down the street with the brakes on for say 10-20 secs at a time, and then let them off and cool down and then repeat this process a few times... The discs need to get the machining / grinding marks off and the pads need to get hot and harden up a little. They will improve with a bit of use.
The brake may well start to screech a bit, they should quieten down after a bit.0 -
so its quite normal then for them to be like this brand new is that what your saying ?0

have been riding the bike a few times now and pulling the brakes regularly, they seem to be a little better but i have to really pull the brake lever very hard to get the wheels to lock out with the brakes, is this normal ?
also i have noticed thet there is no resistance on the brake lever until it is half way pulled, is this correct with hydro's ? should there not be a resistance on the brake pull as soon as you start to pull it ?
thanks0 -
have you adjusted the lever reach?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

lever reach, ??????? am total newbie mate help me out0

you can adjust the lever reach....that is....basically how close to the bars they sit......if you have great big mitts with fingers like jimi hendrix, then they need to be far away.
If you have tiny little hands with fingers like....erm someone with small fingers....then you can adjust them so that they sit closer in...Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I believe in the future of the human race.
