Guys,
Having commuted the last 1700 miles on my old and clapped out year 2000 model GT Tempest i am in the market for a new bike.

Think I've decided on a hard tail as although my riding is mainly road/cycle path I'm looking to get into some light off roading so don't want to buy another bike in 6 months time.

I am eligible for the bike to work scheme so can get anything up to £1,000. I've been looking at the 2009 Marin's and especially like the Nail Trail. Has anyone any experience of this bike? Would it be fine to commute on with a pair of slicks?

What other bikes should I be looking at at this price point?

Thanks

If it's any help I have a '01 Nail Trail that is still going strong (although there's not much of the original bike left  )

In the Winter I fit some slicks and use it to hack around the local lanes when it's just too cold/wet/dark to go off-road. When the weather improves it's a fine MTB and climbs with the best.
