My cycling milestone today

Not to anyone in particular but just because I felt chuffed with myself.
After having got a new Giant SCR2 on the 2nd August this year through the cycle scheme at work, today I passed the 1,000 mile mark.
I`ve commuted the 10 miles each way to work six days a week through the best and worst of the `summer` mornings and evenings and enjoyed every yard of it.
On the way home from work I invariably take the long way round and end up doing 15-25 miles instead of the required 10 just for the fun of it. On me days off I`m out and about enjoying the beautiful Devon countryside and glad to be alive.
4 years ago I was 17 stone, drinking way too much and 39 years old. Today I`m 12 1/2 stone , don`t drink at all and probably never been so fit. I got pissed off being a fat ass waste of space so started walking and cycling. Just carried on going bit by bit and then really got hooked on the cycling.
If things keep on the way they are I may buck up courage to ask to ride with the local club, but that may wait until the start of next year.
The posts and information on these pages have been a great help and I wish I had found them before.
Sorry to blow my own trumpet but I am just one happy bunny at the moment. Long may it last.
Cheers.

Well done!
I hit my first milestone today. 50 miles in 2 weeks... less than 4 miles round trip to work though.
I'm hoping to do a lot more when I pick up my new bike. ( I also got it through the cycle2work scheme) but mine will be mainly off road! The futures bright....

Good work.
I'm in a similar but less extreme position. New bike, loving it and racking up the distance quickly. Signed up for a MTB race on November the 2nd. And I plan to do the Hell of the Ashdowns on my road bike in February.
Lost lots of weight and feeling excellent. Bikes rule!FCN 4-6 depending

In metric I passed the 1000km a month average over 10 months, i.e. 10,000km, last month....'Twas Mulga Bill, from Eaglehawk, that caught the cycling craze....0

Good effort, and in not a great deal of time. The 1k mark as a commuter is definitely one worth celebrating - you know you've arrived!0
