Why do we choose to suffer?

  • Only for one aspect of cycling - climbing. Everything else is OK . You can be quick in a time trial or along the flat but you can't destroy people like you can on a long climb. There is nothing worse than being dropped on a climb and there is nothing better than dropping everybody else on one. That's the heart of the sport, for me.

Although in TTing, it does do you a power of good to pass someone who started a few minutes in front. Being caught and quickly left behind by a faster rider, on the other hand, is pretty demoralising. :(

  • Because on the bike, there is no stress. No rich/poor, no good/bad, no mortgage or job, just harder and easier.
And there is no feeling in the world like feeling strong when climbing (doesn't often happen, but when it does :D:D:D )
And all my best friends in Manc are the ones I cycle with, and are fantastic people who keep me happy.

Agree with this completely. My favourite is getting into the perfect rhythm on a climb. Makes the whole thing feel effortless. Plus you probably look absolutely great to anyone watching

But I've got to tell you, shocked, the guy in your avatar always looked like he was carrying a sack of potatoes up the climbs as well as himself  .

Was that the same sack of Potatoes he carried around in the front of his jersey during the spring?

  • Has anyone here ever ridden so hard that their eyes started to water?

1)All but 2 of the 10 tt's i did this year i threw up over myself

2)Im gonna regret saying it but i attempted to ride the etape caledonia mid diorrhea and vommitting episode and subsequently did both in winter kit passed out and fell to the floor before being taken to hospital and fed a few i/v fluid bags.

I feel your pain brothers and its great. The sport would be nothing without it. You can do anything (point 2 above being an exception) if y  ou just want it enough! YOU GOTTA WANT IT!!!!!!!!
