Had my first rode on my road bike today..it nearly killed me!
Being a mountain biker mainly i really found having a double chain set much harder going, not having my granny grear to cosset me uphills !
But even though i was knackered i had a really good ride...more more i say.
Many thanks for reading .

Hi Caz,
I cant believe you bought a double and you live in Blackburn!!!
Your always either going up a hill or down, but on the bright side you will leave some people for dead if you come across a flat bit of road at some point.
I bought a triple and even though I have only used it a couple of times I am so glad that I did

Well done. Compared to you I'm a very experienced roadie (3 weeks!). As I live in a hilly area I did get a triple. However, reading a lot of the comments on triples I reckoned I would be using the granny gears until much later when I hit some serous climbs.
Wrong, I lasted precisely 2 miles before I was in the bottom gear and looking for more!
Have improved a bit since then though.
At what point does the pain in the nether regions stop?0 -

Wimped out today and took out the MTB....it was easier having the lower gears, but it felt wrong riding that on the road  ..sooo much slower
