Need help setting sag of XC 600 TST2 140mm that came stock with my Kona Dawg 08.
Am setting the sag to about 20% and i'm quite a light, 128pounds.

Dropped my psi to about 25 for 205% sag, after riding a while, i realised my fork's travel is only 120mm. Measured with a ruler when dismounted. If i step on my wheel and pull my handle bars upwards, i see it extending. Is this normal? I can get it to be at 140mm by pumping in more but it gets way too hard for me, almost a rigid feel.

Is there a negative air chamber i'm missing out or what are my options?

Thanks

  • Having just got a set of these on my Reign 2 I have had the system explained to me as this;

For the forks to travel correctly they must have a sag. This sag allows the forks to extend as well as retract through natural travel. For example, if you ride over a hole the forks will extend to reduce the impact of the hole, dropping the bars away from you. In the same manner they will retract over a bump, preventing the bars from slamming upwards at you. All you need to do after setting the sag is set the rebound (bottom of right fork) to get the travel to reset without feeling too springy and harsh or too slow and soft. Ride off a kerb and see how they feel, dropping then responding fast enough to prevent wobble but not so fast they buck you about.

I have set my sag at 25-30% with a positive air pressure of near 50PSI to carry me and my kit at about 210lbs or so. Now all I need to do is figure out exactly what the TST2 settings achieve when used (I know what Lockout means!).
Don't get too close as a broken tail light often offends...

TST2 has 2 settings of stiffness or resistance to compression plus the lockout
  • TST2 has 2 settings? My Reign 2 set hasa lever with four positions plus the lockout... OE specials perhaps or only two of the positions actually do something?

    Hi,
I also have a set of XC600 TST2s on my Kona Dawg 08 (bought Dec 08). I have always struggled with getting the settings right. I am about 14 stone but have only managed to get a max of 3 inches travel out of the forks. I reduced the air pressure (Top of left stanchion) to 50 psi (from the shop setting of 60 psi), this did not seem to help. My rebound is set to middle of the road, even if I reduce this to the lowest setting it does not make any difference.

Yesterday I went for a ride and found that I was getting a max travel of 1.5 inches.

Is there two air pressure valves for this fork or only the one on the top of the left stanchion?

Any ideas on the above would be appriciated.
  • Hey,

I had a similar problem with mine. It was something like a hydraulic lockout and I was getting maybe an inch of travel.

We removed the damping cartridge (RHS with red lever), unscrewed the top cap and drained out some oil and it was good to go again. Apparantly they have some sort of issue with too much oil in there. I've actually had the cartridge replaced under warranty by Marzocchi, they were really good about it. Try that if you can.

To get the cartridge out, flick the red lever off with a screwdriver, use a large socket to removed the cartridge, about 27 or 30mm from memory. Lift the cartridge up, then wrap an old tube around the cartridge for grip so you can removed the top cap with the same socket. Lift the cap up a bit till a little bit of oil comes out and then reassemble. Hopefully it's all good then. Job is probably made easier if you remove the air from the LHS.

    Hope that answers your question.

I took out some oil as described by nufmran and it worked perfectly, now i can get all of the travel out of my xc600 tst2.

Thanks Man....I almost send it to marzocchi.
