Which 3/4 shorts?

I'm tempted to grab a pair before winter kicks in, as I hate getting too warm on the bike but don't like cold knees
As a chunky monkey, would prefer something that doesn't make me look too huge, saw a chap with a groovy pair of Enduras the other day, couldn't tell if they were Zyme's or Humvees
Recommendations, please
PS: yes, I know, "pop along to your LBS and try some"...

I'm going to stick my neck out here and declare my belief that ANY 3/4 length shorts are a style disaster right up there with the snood. You always knew they were pointless, but inexplicably, lots of people wore them......
There, I've said it. I know I'm alone. Shunned for my conventional "cycling shorts and leg warmers" ways.0 -

I've got Endura Humvees, they're good - comfortable and haven't shown any signs of wear in the 1000 miles since I got 'em. The click in attachment for the Endura lycra shorts seems a bit pointless so I wouldn't worry too much about pairing them up.Jonny0 -
Are you in London?
I picked up two pair of airwalk ones from old kent road sports world. Reduced from 34.99 to 8.00 each. Nice cut too.
I like 3/4 shorts cuz i can wear em all year round. During the cold days of winter i just wear knee length sox too, to keep warm.
Also cuz i ride a recumbent i wear body armour on my hip area ( that's were you usually land on if you crash - bleeding hurts landing in ya hip bone). When i wear cargo short they seem to ride up if i and damage when under short bit of the armour and rip it. This doesnt happen with 3/4 length. I'd rather wreck 8 quid shorts than £66 armourYou might have a nice rolex city boy, but I've got the time0 -
Do these 3/4s typically come with padding found in lycra cycle shorts, or in the Humervee/Zyme case, are you relying on the clip-in liner to have the padding?
I've been pondering on some of these or just standard baggy shorts for a while, but I've always found it unclear whether they come with any padding, making their benefit above wearing my work shorts questionable.================

The Humvee come with 'clip on'( press studs ) short inserts , I've got 2 pair and I don't wear the padded short inserts, too uncomfortable , the shorts are too cold for frosty winter days.
I'm also looking for either 3/4 or full lengh tights ( longs ), take a look in decathlon , but expect to pay £40 or £50 for a decent pair where the pad is stiched in.0 -

...these are good Sam...I've got a pair...
I'll second the Zyme recommendation.
Nice "cotton" feel about them, but made from polyester so dry quickly. Soft(ish) comfortable, and well designed (IMHO). Look of the charcoal pair is almost good enough for some of the single speed lot - no contrasting stretch panels on show! Quality can be a bit hit and miss, the first pair I had, had a dodgy popper, and my current pair are missing a bit of velcro on the rear pocket.
However I wore mine all last winter without any problems, length is enough to keep the knees warm, but give you that lovely goosebumped calf look.
One word of caution, sizing (used) to be *very* generous, resulting in you needing to go a size smaller than suggested, and even then expecting it to be pulled very tight on the tabs to stay up! Hopefully they've fixed this now, but if ordering online, be prepared to return.
