I am psyching myself up for a one day trip from Wimbledon to Trowbridge in Wiltshire - does anyone have any suggestions for route, tea, cakes, bike shops or sanity.
Thanks

Um,...Why Trowbridge? Only it's a bit of a dump and Bradford on Avon and Bath are just a bit further on...jedster wrote:Just off to contemplate my own mortality and inevitable descent into decrepedness.
FCN 8 off road because I'm too old to go racing around.0 -
OK, cobbling together some of my previous rides:-
If it were me I'd probably do:
Wimbledon, Kingston, Hampton, Shepperton, Chertsey, Longcross, Windlesham, Lightwater, Frimley, Farnborough, Fleet, Crookhams, Odiham, Upton Grey.
Here's my London to Cornwall route that uses bits of the above:-

Once near Upton Grey use the top section of the Stonehenge 200 Audax to get to Ludgershall. It's a nice route:-

( This last section is a guess, I've no idea what the A342 is like. )
Then bimble along the A342 through Upavon, then along the B3098 to Edington, turn off to go through West Ashton and into Trowbridge.--
If I had a baby elephant signature, I\'d use that.0 -
The Test valley is a really nice ride and more or less on the way. From Basingstoke, follow Overton, Whitchurch and then down the river until you meet the road to Salisbury.
I last did it in 1978, so it is probably a tad busier now!0 -
Salsa, thanks for your comment, I completely agree with your comments on Trowbridge, however my father decided to move there a few years ago. I was in Bath at the weekend and it was great. BTW worth checking out is a newly reopened Ring o bells pub on Widcombe Parade0

This'll get you to Basingstoke from Kingsmeadow about 2 Hours then add the second bit on ...
