I'm sorta new to mountain biking. I have a rubbish apollo bike but i need a new bike that can take the battering that i give it. After a while i found the best bike.
"KONA FIRE MOUNTAIN DELUXE 2008!"

The bad thing is that i've looked at tons of sites. The actual kona website says that it has Shimano Deore shifters, rear mech ect.. and Rockshox DART 2 forks.
But other websites say that it has Shimano Alivio, Acera stuff and Rockshox DART 1 forks. Who's right!? Who's wrong!? PLEASE GIVE ME SOME HELP! Thanks! :D

  • If your realy interested contact the site you may be purchasing it from, ask them the exact spec there selling and how much. i doubt Kona would be able to do anything about it as there not the ones selling it on to you.

The Kona Firemountain (without the deluxe bit on the end) has the acera rear mech and the alivio shifters. I've got one and its ace but I have ordered a deore mech to replace the acera one. The shifters work fine though so can't see the sense in replacing them until I need to. I just find that the acera mech has a big chunky cage which fills with mud really eaisily. Apart from that, I can't fault it.

Looking on the Kona website, in the 2008 bike specs, I can't see any difference in components from the standard bike to the deluxe version which can't be right because it would be the same bike!... The 2009 version does list Deore components though which sounds more like it.

Talk to the bike shop ;)

    Hi there
A mate of mine just bought the Kona Fire Mountain deluxe and it does use Shimano Deore shifters, rear mech ect.. and Rockshox DART 2 forks. I must say Its a fantastic looking bike ,great paint job . He bought the bike from Evans Cycles and paid £350 for it.
  • thanks tons kev2b3!
    have a look at winstanleysbikes.co.uk
It says (wrongly) that it has shimano alivio/acera and dart 1s! they should get their facts right.
Does the Fire Mountain Deluxe have good pedals? Or grips because i don't know whether to change them or not.

    Thanx for the help kev!
