74 (KERN Christophe ), 168 (TJALLINGII Maarten ), and 175 (JURCO Matej) With the breakaway trio about to reach the summit, they hold a 5.49 edge on the main pack. Astaná isn't letting up on its effort and continues setting the pace for the big bunch. The race is moving along between patches of cloudy and clear skies with the temperature at 14ºC.

The average goes back up again, standing at 38.5 kilometres after four hours.

    Now that was one hell of a climb, superb last 6km.

    How they can concetrate when the fans are that close I don't know. Well done to them all really.
