Hey all,
Ok, off-roading is pretty new to me, and having read lots of reviews on hardtails I had my heart set on the GT Avalanche 1.0 (2008 model). However, with work taking forever to sort out my cycle to work scheme ('ahem - lots of off road on the way to work of course!'), I can't find it in stock now anywhere - Also the 2009 model is £100 dearer than this years model! - with that in mind can people offer suggestions to other equivalent bikes - budget 500-600 quid.
Anyone think that the GT 1.0 avalanche for 600 quid is still good value? Or what do people have to say about the saracen zen or even the rockhopper - esp frame and how much of the components would need to be upgraded for some decent riding? (Again if I don't act fast I'm assuming the 2009s will be more expensive)
Thanks all,
f.

I know that Cycles UK have GT Avalanche 1.0 in stock right now as i've just walked out of the shop and it was on display....£499. I can also vouch for this shop, the staff there are very very knowledgable and friendly. You will have no issues with these people is you decide to order from them.
Also, I can vouch for the Saracen Zen as I've just bought a 2008 Zen 2 for just under £600 on ebay (delivered). This is an £800 bike so if it's value for money you are after then there it is. There are more on ebay, brand new from Rutland Cycles and if you phone and make them a sensible offer on the price you may just get lucky like I did, I think they are on there for £625 & £10 delivery. Obviously you will have to pay in full as opposed to the cycle to work scheme with this option but it's a heck of a deal. I think Cycles UK may do the cycle to work scheme though. You'll have to check this out on the website or give them a call.
