Which of these bikes would you recommend?

I have a city commute travelling a total of 30km per day. I currently do this on a Kona Dr Dew which is now 3 years old so I am currently toying with the idea of trading it in for something a little faster.
Bikes I am considering are a Giant Defy 1 for €1199

Boardman Performance Urban Pro for €1000

There was also a Orbea Diem Drop Disc for €1700 (a little outside my budget but I could stretch it) which a customer had bought and returned after 1 week because they decided they wanted a Trek instead.

What do you guys think? Would it be madness to purchase a carbon fibre frame for a city commute? Is there anything else worth considering for a speedy commute in the €1000-€1500 price range

Is the Orbea price alreadya reduction? If it's second-hand I'd have thought it'd be a little cheaper. Looks nice!
I ride my carbon Focus Cayo Expert to work and back through London traffic and grime and although I may be reducing its life by doing so, it's so great to ride! I'm going to sort out my aluminium Trek 1200 for winter (mudguards - well, raceblades probably - new lighter, stronger wheels etc) but I'm doing so with a bit of a pout.0 -
Seemingly the Orbea Diem Drop Bar is €2200 new but the guy who bought it only had it for a couple of days when he decided that it was not the bike for him. I was looking at it in the shop and if they hadn't actually told me that it was second hand I would have assumed that it had been just out for a test ride. That is why they only dropped it to €1700.0

Seems fair enough I guess. Nice bike - I'd be very tempted. Ask if they'll throw in a bit of kit too!0

You can't really go wrong with handbuilt construction in Spain against mass produced chinese bikes!
Anyway, I will still look for a further 10-15% discount if you can. Or may be free kitx-x-x-x-x-x-x-x
