Hi.
I have been commuting 20 hilly miles a day on my MTB which is hard work. So I have decided to get myself a road bike with a budget of £600 (set by the wife).
I am in terested in the bikes linked below and any advice as to which is the best bik would be much appriciated. I intend to try each of the bikes before buying.

I would suggest to the good woman that ~1K is a better bet so that you can pick up an end-of-season bargain for ~800 or so and show her how much you saved....Spring!

Head says Cannondale cos too many Trek's around.
Heart says colours on that Trek 1.5 are lovely and it looks the best of the bunch. My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

Cannondale surlely best value and probably best for what you want, plus you can up-grade the gears etc should the need arrise, imhowinter beast: http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr34 ... uff016.jpg

I got a Bianchi and I like it.
Every owner will post with a recommendation. If you were to get that Bianchi, all I'd say is to budget for better shifters. The xenon feel a bit plasticcy and horrible. Other than that, the rims are up to commuting on a rough surface, I don't fint the ride too harsh or too lively, the bike remains comfortable over a similar journey to yourself.
It does have a double chainset over a tripple if hills are really important to you. My hills are so insignficant I never really get of the big ring.Bianchi c2c Alu Nirone 7 Xenon (2007) Road

Thanks for the replies.
I have narrowed it down to the Treck 1.5 & the Bianchi.
I am going to try & get a ride on them at the weekend.0 -
I must say I do like that Bianchi.0

+1 bianchi
1. Italian
2. Compact double (50/34) as I don't like the look of triples
3. Rarity value
4. I have Xenon shifters. They're fine.
5. Come with clipless road pedals
What about a Specialized Allez...? http://www.devercycles.co.uk/dever-bikes-2008.asp?rnge=XBSPZALEZ08/Specialized Allez Road Racing Bikesjedster wrote:Just off to contemplate my own mortality and inevitable descent into decrepedness.

I don't really like the look of the Allez. I know that shouldn't matter but I want a bike that looks good. 8)0

My boyfriend had the same dilemna between the bianchi and trek 1.5. His heart said bianchi and head said trek - it is a better bike for the price in my opinion. He went with the Trek but he's always moaning about the colours and I think he probably should have gone for the bianchi although the trek is a better bike. It depends how vain you are!0

I don't really care much about the label. The frame looked good to me, the bike is comfortable to me, I liked the idea of 10 speed, and it rides well for me.
Its not perfect, I'd junk the campag xenon shifters, and if I were leisure riding rather than to work up the a23 might have been tempted to swop the wheels.
But whats interesting is my local Bianchi dealer also stock Specialised, but dont bother with the Allez. They only really go for Tarmac's Roubaix ect. Bianchi is the only brand they stock down to the £600 price point.
If its good enough for a major cycle retailer, its good enough for me.Bianchi c2c Alu Nirone 7 Xenon (2007) Road
