Some people should not have the confidence in their body, I think....
p.s. on my last ride some *people* in a trashed car (you know the sort) decided to yell abuse. Then got caught in traffic. So I ahem *may* have got some leaves, nice muddy ones, and might have dumped them through their window as I went passed. Then left quite quickly.jedster wrote:Just off to contemplate my own mortality and inevitable descent into decrepedness.

they don't realise how much adrenaline one builds up when caning it on a bike. and how much stronger and more athletic we are when they get out of their boxes
it does my head in when motorcyclists cut me up or drive too close as they really ought to know better
Great post mate echo all that, I ride m/c's as well and some of the dicks that think it's cool to buzz a roadbike is beyond me.
I have never had a roadbike and have ridden MTBs for 18yrs now on the road for the last 4 weeks I am utterly flabbergasted at the nutters and idiots and their attitude to cyclists. Never have I used so many expletives.......Colnago C60 SRAM eTap, Colnago C40, Milani 107E, BMC Pro Machine, Trek Madone, Viner Gladius,

last guy on a MB was about 19, I apssed him about half mile after he buzzed me, but kept my opinions to myself, but a further half mile on was a police car stopped for the event that I partaking in....had a nice little chat him, before went for a chat with said 19 year old speedracer amd his mates....'Twas Mulga Bill, from Eaglehawk, that caught the cycling craze....0 -
A couple of weeks ago I smiled at a lady on a horse as I went past her. "IT'S NOT FUNNY YOU KNOW!" she replied - wonderful0

Did anyone else see Vicky Pendleton in The Times on Saturday? Our fightback has a spokesperson!

I love Victoria Pendleton. She is the best news for the sport, an encouragement to all girls to get out there and do what you want to do. I hope she wins many more Golds. And that she asks to train with me. I'd love to train with her...jedster wrote:Just off to contemplate my own mortality and inevitable descent into decrepedness.

We're not talking a physical workout on the bike here are we? Some other form of 'excercise' :oops:I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -

Just wear baggies and old T-shirts but seem to get some every so often. Nearly always been pedestrians, only couple of times from a car. Grps of lads as you'd expect. Like climbers and Everest, I think it's just cos you're there.
What amazes me is how quickly peeps decide to give you abuse for no reason. Riding up an A-road towards Boston, traffic moving at 60mph each way. Grp of lads in car the opposite side all out the windows giving the finger. wtf, they must have only seen us a couple of seconds first - look at him riding a bike, what a wanker!
Worst I suppose was when my bike fell over on the train between Doncaster and Scunthorpe - half the carriage burst out laughing. It was a folder - haha teach him and his fancy london bike to come on our train.0 -
Well I had a bottle of Coke thrown at me on Monday night. I've read about it happening to other people on here, but it was a first for me. Lucky it didn't hit me, as it was thrown from an oncomming van driver and I was doing about 30mph. God knows what would have happened if it had hit me!!0

Been cycling properly again for about two weeks, haven't had any abuse yet, I do wear 'normal' clothes when out though (have lycra under some baggy cargo shorts and just a t-shirt and hoody on top). I do always acknowledge cars if they have had to wait behind me for a fairly long time. This morning on my way to work (driving!) I was stuck behind a cyclist who made his way over to the side of the very narrow country lane to let me pass and I thanked him - he didn't need to but it's mutual courtesy like this which helps the relationships between cyclists and drivers. There will of course always be idiots :?0

I think I had a stone thrown at me from a car at the weekend. I don't think it flipped up from the tyres as (i) it was a sizable stone and the road surface was very good (I couldn't see any other stones on the road) and (ii) the car that went by was a chavvy Corsa and I'm making assumptions about the type of people in it.
Anyway, the stone skimmed my thigh, clipped the crossbar and whacked the seat post with a sound like it'd been hit with a hammer. I have a couple of chips on my bike and a scrape/bruise on my leg. If it had hit my shin or face I dread to think what the damage would have been as it was almost tennis ball sized.
I hope it came off the road but I couldn't help thinking it'd been thrown.

+1, the number and extent of them nowadays - it sometimes smacks of someone trying to get justification, for doing nothing. 2 wrongs may not make a right, but it might put that seed of doubt in the mind of the cretin, the next time they are trying to impress the rest of the pondlife.0 -

Don't really understand the correlation, but there you go! Was in the army for 11 years - so you could class that as government condoned thuggery, if that is your standpoint. Seems to be the same characters having all of the issues - either very unlucky/conspiracy theorists or just a tad sensitive at times.0

Where do you live mate? Some parts of this country don't lend themselves to that sort of retort anymore.
I've been racing and riding on the road for 28 years, there have always been to**ers about but the type of weapon has been seriously upgraded these days, It's not worth it believe me, you get into enough scrapes and sooner or later your numbers gonna be up. I used to fight back all the time, I'll have a word if I can get to them but honestly if you get something thrown from car in opposite direction you are not likely to get the number or catch up with it are you?
On the thanking drivers for waiting - yes I have started doing that if they have patiently waited for me in the lanes, it can't do any harm.0 -
I think most parts of the country don't lend themselves to that kind of retort. At the end of the day, if they're tw@ish enough to chuck things at you, there's a good chance they'll be tw@ish enough to do more. Besides if someone chucks a load of sh!te at you they'll probably drive away to fast for you to catch the reg. no. or be going the other way.
Those who've never experienced abuse are either cycling in completely empty parts of the country, or haven't cycled very much. You live and learn. At any rate, you live0 -
I am in the East Mids. Get the fair share of delivery drivers with too much work for the day, trying to do 30 in a 8 mph contraflow, or the general muppet. Don't seem to get abuse for being a cyclist though. Seems to be quite a contingent of roadies in the area, think the area is just a good working class area - live and let live kind of attitude. Everyone has a bit of stress, catch them on a bad day/bad time, might have a short word. Not because you are a cyclist though.0
-
In over 30 years on the roads at home and abroad I have never been subject to abuse from other road users. Mind you, I have had a few d*ckheads overtaking oncoming vehicles on my side of the road, but even then they were not close encounters, just thoughtless.
I do always acknowledge drivers who wait patiently before overtaking, every little helps. Here's a box,a musical box. Wound up and ready to play.

I do get stuff thrown out me by young lads in cars - empty beer cans etc. One tried to slap my arse with a CD case. Also get abuse when riding two abreast - which I only do a very wider roads such as Morecambe Prom. I get some form abuse about once a month but I do ride most days.

p.s. I've started to thank drivers for giving me room, waiting paitently, etc. Does anyone else do this?
I always raise my hand to say thanks.
Sadly not had my ass slapped or shown any racks (even saggy ones) yet

Even a chav's Corsa with a 1.1l engine is past you and out of number plate taking range in the time it takes you to realise what's happened. In this case I had nothing to report other that a green Corsa.
Next time I will willingly throttle the f**kers if they stop and give me time to get unclipped and stop.Gav2000
