Thinking about going to the Six day in Gent and was after some advice.
I have seen organised trips, but would like to organise myself. So can anyone answere the following, the easiest way to get there from London?
Can tickest be purchased in advance or only on the night?
And any hotel reccomondations?
Is going Saturday and returning Sunday practical?
Thanks

If I were you, I'd go for the Ghent six-day instead.
Six days in the Gents sounds like no fun at all...0 -
Easiest way to get to Gent is via the Eurostar to Brussels then catch a local train. Your Eurostar ticket gives you free train travel to any destination in Belgium.
Tickets can be bought in advance from;

The Ibis Ghent Centrum Opera hotel is cheap, cheerful and not too far from the track.0 -
Leave on the lunchtime Eurostar and you'll arrive in time to book into your hotel and catch a few hours racing.
The Sportpalais is a short walk outside the city centre, and I'll ditto the Ibis being the best placed hotel. It's also on the same road as the famous Plum Vainquer bike shop.
The centre of the track is a beery moshpit, if you want to watch the racing try and get a seat. You'll need to buy vouchers for the beer and hotdogs, however the hotdogs are probably best avoided.0 -
I'd echo the travel and accommodation advice above but, if it's your first time you really have to eat the Hotdogs for the authentic experience. When talking of Ibis hotels, the closest is "Centrum Opera" and not the "St Baafs Katheedral". It's not a huge difference if you've no choice but please don't do what we did several years ago and book the latter and turn up to checkin at the former after asking the Tram driver for "The Ibis" !!!!0

Due to Belgiums strict food labeling laws, I can confirm the hotdogs contain at least 60% dog :shock:0

Tickets can be ordered via the link above - but the site is in Flemmish (and maybe French) so not that accessible for most.
However, if you ring the contact number on the site (+32 9 233 77 88 ), you can order direct from the English-speaking staff there. tickets have been available for some months now, and will be printed and in the post soon.
I've already ordered mine!0 -
Thanks for all your help and advice!0
