changing stem - lack of cable stop

My current stem on my old bike has a cable stop for the front brake, if I get a new lightweight stem with no cable stop how should I wire up the brakes? Should I just use cable liner all the way?

*edit* forgot to say it has canti brakes just now but will be changing to V's.

If you're changing to Vs then you won't need a cable stop, the front brake will take full outers.
