Handlebar grips

This may be a blonde question, but please bear with me...
I need some new handlebar grips, as i've punched my handlebars through the end of mine (and it's now full of mud and New Forest horse poo). SHould I go for any particular type, or all they all pretty much the same? My only criteria is that they need to be quite 'thin' as I have very small hands and can't grip properly with thick ones!
I've found these on Wiggle which (I think) look quite good; http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/Cycle/7/ODI_C ... 360029237/
Any thoughts or other recommendations?
Cheers!

They look good - that's important.
ODI grips usually come up quite small, so they should be a good shout for you.
Personally, I like something quite chunky and squashy - like Good N Evils - but that's just my preference.0 -
Ive just bought some very thin Specialized XC lock on grips, http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCEqProd ... spid=33920
I struggled with my other grips being too thick. They could be worth considering for you.Niner Air 9 Rigid

Oh cool, that's really good to know. Thanks
My other grips came with the bike so I never gave it any thought really! I might give these a try then.Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the number of moments that take your breath away....

Ok, daft question, but why 'lock on' ones? Don't they all stay on anyway?
What's the difference - and I should I be buying them?!!Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the number of moments that take your breath away....

I wont go back to stick on grips now. All you do is slide them on and tighten a small allenkey bolt. It just saves the messing about with trying to take off grips that are glued on, plus if you want to change your bars or take anything off the bars they just slide straight off.
They are very secure once on.Niner Air 9 Rigid

Lock ons have metal rings that clamp the bars.
they make fitting and removal simple. and they do not slip on the bars.
Odi Ruffian lock ons is what i would recommend for smallish hands.

The lock-ons have collars that clamp the grips to the bars, they are easier to fit and remove, and they won't spin, which can happen with normal grips. The fact that ODI make some really good grips helps too.
I find the ODI cross-trainers really good, as I've good fairly small hands.0 -
Thanks guys
I liked the sound of the first ones because they say that they stop the end of the handlebars punching through (as mine did) - are they all as good as the next at stopping this happening? Am torn between the those, and the Odi Ruffians that nicklouse suggested :?Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the number of moments that take your breath away....

the lock-ons can not punch through."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Agree that Ruffians are thin - they're also quite hard.
If you really want to stop anything going in the bars at the ends you can get a metal clamp that fits onto the ends of the lock ons. They won't be as easy to bust as the plastic ones that come as standard (I managed to knacker mine, somehow) so got some pimp Ti ones (about a month before my bike got knicked)

Sorry to hear about your bike
Hmmm - I don't want hard handlebars.... Are any lock-ons as thin as possible, but also a bit squishy?Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the number of moments that take your breath away....

Thanks Sarah, but it was ages ago - although I'm still bitter about it.. :x
You can counteract the hardness with some squishy gloves, or develop fine callouses like most of us scurvy sea dogs.0 -
Yeah, I already have padded gloves.... I guess i'm just a wimp, but i'm all for maximum squishy-ness and comfort whilst hurtling down slopesLife is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the number of moments that take your breath away....

Gotta agree with you there (despite all the bravado about callouses)
I've got a new bike and haven't changed the grips from the Commencal ones it came with - I don't like them at all and I've got some big, yellow, flaky callouses cropping up on my palms now.
Thinking about changing to some bigger, squishy grips and wider bars when I get paid next. :P0 -
white (for grips) is probably the worst colour you can go for - they turn brown and black with mud, sweat and oil in a matter of minutes after putting them on...Hardtails aren't called hardcore for no reason

I have these on both bikes, they are very soft but hard wearing , they come in white which when dirty look c**p so, I'd go for the black, also thick or thin? my wife uses the thin ones, she doesn't wear gloves but says they are still comfy.

Lock on grips are the way forward. Much more secure in the wet. ODI Ruffians are a good choice at Wiggle if you like gold or white!! If not you could try the Lizard Skins Lock On Logo grip in black. Everyone looks good in black!! The Wiggle description is wrong as it says they're for big hands. They are for small hands. http://www.2pure.co.uk/Lizard-Skins-Lock-On-Moab-Grips.
Good luck SarahDream as if you'll live forever..........live as if you'll die today!0 -
lock-on schmock-on. Hairspray is where it's at.
The only grip you'll ever need - Onza Ules. They're even making them again, although I stockpiled them like a redneck awaiting armageddon.0 -
Doh, I meant to suggest the Lizard Skin Lock On Moab grip. The Logo grip is medium sized! The link is correct though for the Moab!!! SorryDream as if you'll live forever..........live as if you'll die today!0
