Gilet / Jacket / Jersey
Hi I am new to road cycling and trying to pickup some pointers on what clothing is probably best for the colder weather so that I can look out for deals and get my self ready.
I Currently have a Short sleeve jersey, shorts and arm warmers so not very well prepared for colder weather, i dont intend going out in the rain I would more likely go on my mountain bike.
Please can someone point me in the right direction of what is best to equip myself with for those colder days.
I dont want to keep buying expensive clothing that i dont use.
My current train of thought was to get say a base layer and utilise my jersey along with a Gilet ... is this the best way forward? or should I be looking at a long sleeve jersey or Jacket.
So far i have always been more than warm enougth with just the short sleeve Jersey.
I have been looking at the assos Gilets are they worth paying the extra ??
Thanks for any advice in advance.

some people like their gilets but for me a good jacket is works better most of the time.
I run a Gore Phantom, without a base layer on mild days and with one when it get chillier.
Light, comfy, not cheap but great value, and hard wearing.Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0 -
I like the flexibility of a gillet and arm warmers in the autumn. Splashed out on Assos arm warmers last year and went cheap on a £12 Planet X gillet which is just fine.
Oh....Wiggle have Decent leg warmers at half price (£20 instead of £40) - got a pair a few weeks back and am not disappointed, although they seem to take a long while to dry out after getting *really* wet. They are very light and well-fitted.0 -
Gilets and arm warmers and legs are great for spring summer autumn - but when it does get cold - you get a hell of a lot of wear from a decent winter jacket and winter tights.
I always have a base layer on - in summer or winter.0
