Glasgow CTC rides

I was talking to the secretary of the newly reformed Glasgow CTC and was thinking of going on their next ride.

On their new website they claim, "The pace is moderate ...". Has anyone been out with them? What sort of distances do they do. I'm going to try to make it along anyway, but I'm curious to know what I'll be facing.

Details of the next ride for anyone who's interested:
Sun 21 Sept 10:30 Meet at Paisley Gilmour Street station Ride details - Out via Gleniffer Braes to Dunlop and Lugton. Some wonderful views over the city… a few, um, hills so you’ll earn an ice cream before heading (hurtling?) back down the braes.

I don't know what "moderate" means, but it would be really helpful if groups could advertise expectations of pace.

I tour at 21kph, commute at 24kph, and ride sportives at about 27kph.

If they said, you need to be able to go at at least such and such a speed over 3-4hours, I would be able to judge whether I could keep up.

  • My brother went out with the Glasgow CTC a few months back on a ride starting from Paisley Gilmour St. It was pretty short but nice route up to Kilmacolm via back roads, hilly in places then back down to Paisley via the old railway line that's now a super cycle track. The ride was very leisurely with all types of bikes on show and all ages.

Thanks, Scapa. I should have read the rest of the page more closely to where they say, "The current runs are for all cyclists ...". This would seem to indicate an easy pace for newbies. So 'leisurely' and not very far would seem to fit the bill. Not quite what I'm looking for, but I guess I'll only find out if I pop along. I can always add some distance by riding to and/or from Paisley.

I was thinking the same thing. 'Moderate' is one of those words that's open to interpretation - what's a moderate pace for Chris Hoy wouldn't be moderate for me!
