I've been waiting for this cardioversion thing for ages - I have to take warfarin to make sure my blood is thin enough and I have to be within a certain zone for 4 weeks before I can have the "op".
AFter several weeks on drugs, I got as far as 3 weeks in the zone and then my blood went haywire so had to start the whole process agian. After a number of bad weeks, I then got to 4 weeks in zone, operation set for tomorrow and now, NOW, I've come down with Tonsillitis! It's highly unlikely that I'll be able to have the op. Swallowing is excrutiatingly painly and i'm living between doses of paracetamol (all I'm allowed due to warfarn and even taht could send my blood off again).
P!ssed right off!
just had word from cardiologist - op cancelled but good news is that they're going to try to get me in for the following week. Hopefully the antibiotics won't send my blood out again. Arrgggghhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That sucks
I had tonsillitis earlier in the year and it really knocked me for six. Hope you feel better soon and you can have your op Popette0 -
Hard lines Popette. Hope it all works out. Looking forward to hearing everything has gone to plan.0
-
Ow! Sounds like a frustrating (and painful) situation. And to think I was feeling narky this morning as there was no semi-skimmed milk at the canteen... Hope things get better soon! Any word from the medical bods as to when you'll be back, recovered and on the road?0
-
Take a deep breath....... and another...... and another.......!
It is shitty and you are feeling under the weather, and having a rant gets it off your chest, :?
Now get back to bed and start working on recovery!! (That was in the Mum's voice that you use with your kids!!)
Hope you are feeling loads better next week and that you can get in for the op. We are all crossing fingers, toes etc for you!!
Get well soon!!0 -
Ta guys.
Early night for me I think.
Chris Noir, as soon as I have the "op", I will either be fixed and able to resume full training or it won't have worked and I'll need something else doing. There's a 95% chance that it will work though so I'm really hopeful. I'm not thinking about it at the moment. I just want to be able to swallow without bracing myself beforehand. (there's a joke in there somewhere)0 -

Hope you feel better soon Popette and try not to get too run down by it all however difficult that must be.0 -
Aw bum, that's rotten luck.
Hope it goes ahead next week and I have everything crossed that it will be successful.0 -

All the very best for when you get done, think the good thoughts - keep positive.0

Well, that really blows chunks :!:
Hope that the reboot can go ahead real soon and you can get back to riding at full throttle. As for painful swallowing, can't you get a prescription for ice-cream from the doc :?:
What do I ride? Now that's an Enigma!0 -
Sympathy from this corner too. I had a really aggressive throat infection this summer and even swallowing liquids was a bit of an ordeal, like trying to drain the whole of Windermere through a garden hose - it was quite an easy feat to make a cup of tea last the best part of an hour, and not by choice either

now if they would get it over from america to the UK where it should be.
all the best for full recovery.0 -
Karen
Hope all goes well with the op saw Colin at the start of the Manchester 100 told me you were having it done next week. Will be good to see you back and fit

Thanks for all your replies.
I have now had my cardioversion, which was successful! That was a couple of days ago and I'm still feeling a bit foggy after the general anaesthetic. I'm so happy that it all went well - I was a bit scared to be honest. The anaethetist put something great into my arm which immediately calmed me right down - wonderful stuff whatever it was.
Cardiologist says I can get back on my bike at the weekend but I should take things slowly to start with - no "testing" out my heart. I'm going to do my usual 20mile loop and see how it goes. I can't do the Autumn Epic, as I had hoped, but I will soon be back into the peak district if all goes well.
Thanks again for your support - it really does mean a lot0 -
Woohoo! Great news Popette. Hope all goes well from now on.0
-
Glad to hear it went well. Take the advice and build up slowly. If you tick over through the winter, you'll arrive at the same starting point as the rest of us next Spring (i.e. back at square one!)0
-
Great news there, congrats
I'm sure the slow building up will work, afterall it is what I've been having to do and will have to do again once I get a replacement bike myself hehe.
If you can find out what it was that calmed you down let us all know, I'm sure we've all wanted something like that before hehe"This area left purposefully blank"

Fab news, Popette - does that mean Etape 2009 is now game on?0
-
Great news Popette.
Bet you're wearing a beaming big smile on your face when you do that 20 mile loop.

the weather's going to be good too for a change!0 -
The anasthetic is good stuff, but then, you fall asleep and don't wake up until it's worn off!........
The 3 tamazipan tablets for pre med is a totally different thing, though!!!   WOW!!
Glad you're well on the way to recovery and riding again.Start with a budget, finish with a mortgage!0 -

Awwwww. The really happy ending comes next July when I do kick the arse of the Etape (too right Coriander!), whilst towing the big man round
The forecast does look good for tomorrow - can't wait.0 -

phwooar, what a difference a properly functioning heart makes!
It seems to be working just exactly as it should - i.e. HR goes up gradually with increased effort, HR goes down when I slow down (this didn't happen before which was quite confusing during interval work). I felt a burning in my muscles when blasting over a small hill and just laughed out loud - it's been ages since I've felt that sensation. No more shortness of breath, no more sticking to 120bpm. I just felt brilliant.
