As is says on the tin really ...
My record so far ..... 1 x dry run around Penhydd (Afan), 1 x dry run arond Twrch (Cwmcarn), 1 x Wet, muddy ride on the Talabont Loop (34Km) today.
Front pad gone completley !!
Not that happy really !! Think I'll give the company a ring tomorrow and see what they say.

I've managed to wear a set of pads out in one 7 mile loop round the docks, and half a loop round the red+black at llandegla.
It's been such a wet summer :evil:0 -
it will be the wet muddy run that did it.
Wet muddy conditions kills brakes. Pads or shoes."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Killed one set of rear pads on Saturday in 16 wet miles around Dalby  ....... I would NOT recommend Superstar pads :evil:0

16 miles for a set of pads? Better off with rim brakes.0
-
please note. pads come in different compounds. Organic and sintered.
Sintered for wet and muddy and organic for dry.

I have done a set of rim pads in next to no time as well. bad conditions wears things out."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I know wet and muddy wears things out but never had pads go that quick.
It is a tad wet in South Wales at the moment tho !! :roll:0 -
-
winter time is definitely sintered time.0

Used a pair of Superstar sintered pads yesterday on the Holme Valley Challenge (exceptionally wet this year!) and the pads are fine. Quite impressed, after all the reports I've heard I thought they'd get destroyed, but no more wear than normal. If you're not living life on the edge, you're taking up too much room!0

sintered Avid pads last most of winter, lots of gritty Peak District riding. Avid mechanicals were made for this sort of stuff. Wind 'em right back so you don't get any rubbing/grinding unless you make it happen.0

Did a set of rears in 8 runs at Cwmcarn DH yesterday. Really gritty and horrible.0
-
Sounds to me your all riding to slow, leave the brakes alone and just gun it0
-
hmmm, good point.
Better go and check my pads :shock:0 -
Both Afan and Cwmcarn are pretty sandy in places. Sidewinder on the Penhydd trail did for a set of my pads a month ago. Sandy & wet has got to be the worst combination. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -
I just used sintered now. Not worth changing for the one dry ride we get per year in this orrible country.
I swear I rode more last winter than I have this summer. Looking forward to thoose crisp cold winter days.
Oh, I did a set of organics in on a ten miler in the dales. Was thunder and lightening and turned into a river ride

mmmmmm, crisp winter mornings. Looking forward to it here as well, seeing as we seem to get less rain in winter than summer these days.0

A bit of a n00b question, and slightly off topic, but is there a quick way to check how worn my disc pads are? Or do I need to take them off to check?
Thanks0 -
look at them?0

look at them?
I guess I asked for that!
What I was getting at is whether they have an obvious wear strip , or is it just a case of looking to see if all the brake pad material has worn away?0
