Saw a bit of it which was nice.

Hamilton's legs are massive.

The Harrods / RR kit is vile.

Di Luca, while evil, looks kinda cool.

I'll think of more later.

I was going to go, but couldn't be bothered in the end. After last year's start at Crystal Palace my expectations were too low.
  • I wandered down. The 'Bike Jam' at Tower Hill was a total waste of time so I walked the route. More Police/Medics/Marshals than spectators from the Tower to Waterloo Bridge, and all the crowds at the Westminster end of the the course.

Not as much atmosphere as 2005 or 2006, but better than Crystal Palace.

    what were the results?

Asthma-Jet Pettachi beat Rob "too little plasma" Hayles in the sprint and has the lead.

Oh yeah, the LPR team car appeared to be splashing people watching on purpose by driving through puddles that everyone else avoided. I guess being evil starts at a very base level?

Plowman Craven seemed to have a lot of mechanicals / riders drifting off the back.

  • i went to see it and it was a shame when patachi the dope won but good to see a brit on the podium. and i think rock racing threw pins at other riders tyres  b*sterds
  • ahh too bad for rob hayles eh.
i cant believe lpr was doing that! what a buch of douche bags :-)

Good day out, managed to miss the finish as we were walking down from Tower Hill. Were only a few hundred metres from it when Julian Dean flashed past leading it out for Garmin.

    .

    Wonder why!?

Ah just watched the ITV4 highlights. Appeared to be pretty dull 'cept the end. That Hagen is a damn fine talent. Certainly one to watch over the next few years.

According to the results on Cyclingnews, one of the Plowman Craven riders was disqualified... anyone know why?

The ITV4 show was kinda dull tbh. Boulting is no Imlach. And Hugh Porter's pronunciation of Agritubel literally makes me wince.

Is Julian Dean, sorry, Champion of New Zealand Julian Dean on a promise or was he just glad to see us?

haha indeed. I was hoping for Liggett and Sherwin, but it seems they'd rather be in Ireland?

What are the BBC implying with this little sentence here!?
Britain's Olympic double gold medallist Bradley Wiggins was well down in the field in 93rd place

Did they think he'll go solo with 4 km to go and win with a time better than his olympic final ride?

LOL, when I posted that I wondered how long it would take for the first smutty comment to arrive. Approx 4 minutes I make it.

I thought it was awful rather than dull.

The edits were all over the shop - When I was watching the big break went past me and Di Luca sat up and started looking back etc, so I thought he was going to just sit up and wait for the peloton. Next time I see him he's off solo - And what do we get on TV? Yep, adverts and then Di Luca out in front - No catch shown, no attack from the Killer, nutting.

And having been to 2 ToB's in London before I didn't think the crowds were any bigger - Yet they seemed to be implying there were loads of new fans because of the people who won medals on a wooden oval?

I walked most of the course, and apart from around Tower Hill and the start finish, you wouldn't have really known what was going on, apart from a bike race was on. I don't think it was particularly well published what was going on, not sure what publicising happened in London, but I think more effort could have been put in.

The crowds near the start/finish weren't too bad, always found a space on the barriers as the riders approached.

I also thought ITV's editing was a bit wayward, and didn't tell us what happened, you would have thought with a hour programme they could have managed better

Porter, as well as the Siamese Twins Ligget&Sherwin, was in Ireland for the ToI. Porter was doing the live commentary from a car in front of the race before handing over to that bald American nutcase at the finish. We also had Duffers for the podium ceremonies. Next year they might send over Harmon and we'd have the whole set.

    +1

After the great Tour of Ireland, this was strictly the cut price version. Very poor production, edited by someone on a training scheme. :(

I liked the way that in recorded highlights - we missed the attack going away cos the girl in the coat was chatting to fans about how pleased they were to be watching the race.

Good effort to the Scots guy- hell of a way to come to watch a stage !

One possibility - one of the PC riders got a huge tow from the team car trying to get back to the main bunch, and right down the finishing straight too.

I had a great day out, close to the finish line. The crowd were enthusiastic, the London Grand Prix was spectacular and the commentary from Anthony and Hugh P was on the button.

Good to see the likes of Millar, Wiggins, and notably Rob Hayles - all for free.

The sensation at the barriers of a 90+ field flying past took one's breath away.

Can't understand the 'knockers' here, even on TV coverage. What would you rather have? - none at all?

I'd rather have good coverage. What's the point of watching cycle racing if you didn't see the key moves?

There's nothing wrong in wanting high standards of production. If you want to enjoy the sport, and if you want to attract newcomers, it has to look attractive, not like a student film project.

I do think that the TOI was better coverage - maybe the TOB will improve, but seriously - what added interest is there in interviewing random spectator blokes from round the circuit. Unless you know them of course ?

So tell me Kleber - how would you fund 'top drawer' TV coverage, sans media studies students?
