Hi i am just wondering if anybody could tell me if turbo trainers can be used with a mountain bike(Trek Top Fuel)? are they worth buying for winter training and does anybody have any recommendations??
cheers!

Some turbo trainers have rim rollers which allow them to be used with mountain bikes, while some such as the Gist Magnetic state they can be used with MTBs. The CycleOps Magnetic trainers don't explicitly state MTB but it does say 26" wheels as do Elite Trainers (Take a look at Wiggle's website under trainers). Might want a slick tyre instead of knobblies though?

I find a turbo trainer indispensable, especially as I don't often a chance to get onto my bike until 10pm most evenings during the week (family / work commitments). If you don't like riding in the dark and you want to keep cycling I can think of few alternatives. However using a turbo trainer is hard work, especially psychologically - it gets very boring, and seconds feel that they take minutes to pass. You have no chance to free wheel if you tire a little and the scenery is very dull. ..

As well as a trainer I'd recommend a good supply of music or other entertainment, a large fan to prevent over heating and if you can get it a cycle computer with a rear wheel sensor so you have some sort of feedback into how much effort you're putting in (easy to drop your cadence and not notice).
