Help putting together my Giant SCR

Hey,
New (and first) bike arrived in the post today busy putting the handlebars/seat on and I've come to a little note attached to the Shimano gears warning me:
It has a little diagram of:
low gear->top gear-><zone A> for a double chainwheel and
low gear->middle gear->top gear for triple chainwheel.
Do I need to do something to protect myself from pushing the gears too far? It's the SCR 1.5 I have... is this a double or triple chainwheel?
Thanks for your time,
-Ross
New (and first) bike arrived in the post today busy putting the handlebars/seat on and I've come to a little note attached to the Shimano gears warning me:
This lever is designed for use with double and triple chainwheels. The lever mechanism will break easily if the lever is moved to zone (A) when the double chainwheel setting is used.
It has a little diagram of:
low gear->top gear-><zone A> for a double chainwheel and
low gear->middle gear->top gear for triple chainwheel.
Do I need to do something to protect myself from pushing the gears too far? It's the SCR 1.5 I have... is this a double or triple chainwheel?

Has it got two or three chain rings? (The cogs to which the pedals are attached), these are the chainwheels.0

It has two cogs attached to the pedals - so I guess I need to be careful not to bust it. What exactly do I need to change to stop myself being able to break it?
Thanks again,

I wouldn't worry. I've done this on mine a few times without it breaking.Scottish and British...and a bit French0

I think the lever (just the left one) is capable of shifting across all three chainwheels (if you have them) by pushing it across further, so just push it half way through its full travel. I don't think you could break it unless you really forced it, and when you are up and running you will get the feel for how far you need to push it. Shimano are probably being cautious as I expect they get a few heavy handed people breaking them.0

Ah right, so there's no physical setting on the gear levers to make it double only instead of triple?

From the description is sounds like the manual is trying to stop you putting strain on the chainIt has a little diagram of:
low gear->top gear-><zone A> for a double chainwheel and
low gear->middle gear->top gear for triple chainwheel17 Stone down to 12.5 now raring to get back on the bike!0 -
I have limited knowledge but i thought that shifters would be 2 or 3 speed as you get a kchunk type noise, try changing up/down again whilst on the opposite ring, sounds like shimano trying to cover there asses to me :?winter beast: http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr34 ... uff016.jpg

It is because he has triple chainset compatible shifters (they make double only ones too). They make them so that you can shift across all three rings with one (large) movement, or just across from one ring to the next with a smaller movement. They'll be fine if you don't force it, yes they are covering their arses.0
