Number of spacers
I have just got a new frame and fork. The fork will now need cutting to size.
It is an exact replacement for one I broke. The fork is carbon with alloy steerer tube.
On the old fork I had 30mm of spacers, but always thought I could do with going higher. I want to put another 10mm spacer on there. Would there be any problems with doing this.
As an aside how many spacers can you use?
Also I have a combination of 10 mm spacers and 5mm spacers, is ok to use this combination or should I stick say a 20mm in. Does it matter?

I have never seen a limit quoted for alu steerers. Myself, I,ve run 60mm on an alu steerer for some years.
It's a different matter with carbon steerers though: each manufacturer sets their own limit. For example (IIRC) the limit with a Revnolds carbon steerer is 38mm (i.e. 1.5 inches), and others are in that region.
I don't think that it matters what individual spacers you use to make up the total.0 -
You can use any combination of spacers to make up the size, but it will look like a stack of spacers. For the best look, fit a single size spacer. On one of my bikes I have a 50mm carbon spacer and it looks fine. If you google *massi carbon spacer 50mm" you should find a selection. the brand name rubs off fairly easily without marking the surface.0

I take it you've already flipped the stem?Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0

With a steel or alloy steerer you should be OK with up to 60mm of spacers. Better to use more spacers than to flip the stem until you are sure of your position. You can always flip and recut later but you can not put metal back. I usually leave a 5mm spacer above the stem for fine tuning. I tends to become permanent but does not look bad.0
