As above really. Anywhere around Newtown, Welshpool and Oswestry?

Pop into Brooks Cycles in Newtown, a mate told me the chap in their takes a group out sometimes. You could take a look at Oswestry Paragon CC.

Not too far away, CTC Shropshire (formerly Shropshire & Mid Wales DA) might be worth a look. They do regular group rides and organise Audax events. The website also has a comprehensive list of cycle-friendly cafes, which is surely worth noting :D

    Thanks for that.

I have taken a look at the websites, but they seem to be mostly road riding and not much mountain biking.

    Hmmm.

Long Mynd/Stiperstones area, which is not far from Welshpool, and Nant Yr Arian, Mach etc are mentioned on this forum regularly.

Some great routes on this site. Also, look out for the Dairi-Pak Challenge, run by Oswestry Rotary Club each May. North Shropshire Wheelers run the Cambrian Challenge on 28th September.

    Thanks, great info.

The Stiperstones route looks good. I work in Shrewsbury so it's pretty close.

Just need to find someone to ride with now.

    Cheers,

    Steve,

I'll be doing the Cambrian Challenge in Oswestry on the 28th. Why not sign up? http://www.northshropshirewheelers.co.uk/

  • If its offroad you want you could try the forestry commission venues at Hopton or Eastridge woods. They both have routes for a mix of rider expertise levels, including black runs for the more adventurous.

If you do go to hopton its a good idea to get hold of a map because its not a circuit its a series of trails around the wood.
I've been told this book is quite good but i've never actually read it.
