I am back into mountain biking after a several year break and want to upgrade from my trusty old Ridgeback.
Typically funds are tight and I dont want to go and spend £500-£600 if I really dont have to.
I have done a bit of reaserch and if I spend the money I am looking at
GT Avanlance 1.0 with disc
Claude Butler Cape Wrathe D27
Carrera Fury
Merida Mats F350
However would it be worthwhile to spend that little bit extra and get the Boardman at £650?
To throw a spanner in the works someone has also offered me a 5 month old Decathlon Rockrider 8.2 for £200. He has got the bug big time and wants a top spec bike!!
To me this is tempting as a 12 month stopgap for me to save the money. However I have not heard of them, although the spec looks quite good (for my limited knowledge) or would I be wasting my money?
Can someone help?

Is the Decathlon your size? Have a go on it and make sure there's a bit of space between your balls and the top tube when you're stood on the floor.
If it fits, bite his arm off as it looks a better-specced bike than any that you are considering - he'd have to spend some serious wedge to get a better hardtail bike than that.0 -
Havent seen the bike yet but apparenty he is the same height as me 6ft so I should be OK. I was just concerned as I had not heard of the brand.
Thanks for the reply0 -
Decathelon are well spec'd, and as Chaka said, better than the ones you're looking at. If it fits and rides well, take it...or give me his number0
